What Else is Happening in the Art Room
6th Grade ELA Enrichment
Cougar Time is a 20-minute period between 1st & 2nd periods. Students attend Cougar Time daily for remediation or enrichment in either English Language Arts or Math.
Ms. Foushee's group this year is Project Based Learning enrichment in ELA; this is what our class is working on this year:
Story Writing: Write a children's book with a clear theme that teaches a lesson or something about the world
After writing the story and completing a final draft with illustrations, students will create a book that includes chalk-marbled endpapers and sewn binding.
Mini Project: Greek & Latin roots - word trees
Calligram Poetry: Investigate the work of poet and Surrealist Guillaume Apollinaire. Look at examples of his calligrams, then write your own, paying attention to visual structure and descriptive language.
Real World Problem: African Trade Routes
In conjunction with Ms. Lloyd, the AIG teacher, this MENSA Kids project has students investigate African geography, cultures, and biomes to investigate why a proposed trade route was rejected. Next, students create their own proposal and defend why it's a better choice.
4th Quarter: BYOD: Arguing for/ against devices in schools
Create and support an argument: students divide into two teams to research and create an effective, well-supported argument that will be presented to the class.
